Learn Modelling

METHOD MODELLING : Develops models natural expressive abilities, every thought causes a physical reaction. Concentration upon a thought, emotion, idea or fleeting fantasy results in facial expression, hand gestures, use of arms and legs. Model instead of 'posing' offers spontaneous, valid, original, expressive movements working for moods which are consciously and deliberately assumed.

Learn to view your body from camera's perspective, eact don't react instead respond physically to your imaginative state, thoughts and fantasies and express your feelings with grace and spontaneity pause in the midst of these natural free movements to create a desired pose.

Body positions, facial angles, legs and arms should be presented to the best possible advantage to the camera lens.

Imagine you are in the most beautiful environment with your favourite creative photographer who has taken your sensational pictures earlier. brief now is of 'Sweet mood' you feel very sweet, very feminine, setting is romantic. Imagine you are feeling very gentle, very tender, move very slowly, Give a soft look and express sweet moods, give sweet smile. Touch your face lightly - then your hair, turn slightly on your hips, keep your shoulders moving, let legs stretch out in different positions. Feel feminine, be romantic, move arms and hands gracefully.

'Seductive mood' - become a lioness, look into the lens - inviting, tantalizing, exciting, stretch your legs, twist on your hips, move your stomach, breasts, shoulders slowly - seductively, Feel very desirable, wet your lips, part them invitingly, teasingly. Run your hands along the sides of your body. You're totally sensual, absolutely desirable.

'Mischievous mood' - Become a clown, full of fun, crazy, very unpredictable, be silly, kid around, giggle, wrinkle your nose up, wink - have fun. Be free and uninhibited, throw your hair around, be a tomboy and let go.

'Male moods' - "Contemplative mood" concentrate on a self image of confidence, emotional, strength and of self acceptance, life is going well and will get even better. You are relaxed can freely communicate, you almost want to smile, but are too relaxed to even do that.

"Male Exuberance" : You are feeling more alive, more virile, feeling great. Joking around you move easily from one position to another - laughing easily, feeling alive, strong vital and in marvelous good humour.

"Romantic Situation" - Imagine you are with a most beautiful lady. You feel tender towards her, very protective confident and in control, yet feeling most Romantic, respond fully to your thoughts.

Newcomers assume a 'photographic mask' before camera's lens. They freeze, tense facial muscles, hide natural charm of their genuine expression. The sensitivity of camera freezes your anxiety and artificiality. Relax all your muscles in your shoulder, neck and face and think your face is without any muscles. Feel and concentrate on sending real messages from your eyes - 'feeling sexy' - 'feeling happy' - so completely that you cant restrain your facial responses. The emotion is imaginatively induced but it is experienced. Model like a good actor have to be totally willing to reveal your emotions. Rediscover the simplicity of being vulnerable, Recapture the freedom of being natural and spontaneous, unrestrained emotional response of a small child.

Each model soon learns that certain expressions "Work Best" with his or her own individual bone structure, mouth formation, eyes etc. model must be intimately acquainted with the subtle nuances of face and expression only by taking your work seriously can you enjoy and have fun with it.

Master communicating thoughts and emotions through posture and expression. As pictures are two dimensional forms having only height and width, there is no true depth perception. Image is created by models body and clothes. Learn to think in terms of body-outline, shapes, dark and light contrasts. Strengten your photos by defining your silhouettes and deliberately create lines of interest and feeling of movement in composition.

Perpendicular lines give static structured effect, lack flow diagonal lines break through perpendicular monotony and give 'flowing movement'. A models body, arms, legs, hands, clothes, hair can provide esthetically pleasing surface diagonal lines. The expert model deliberately creates diagonal lines with head angles, arms, shoulders lines, hands, clothing and flow of hair. Twisting, turning and leaning in the most subtile ways. The click of the camera is the models clue to change. A little movement of head or shoulders or hands can create a totally new effect. When subtle variations become exhausted then make a total change.

To become proficent carefully study the tips and absorb the lessons, practice method modelling and do the industry proud.

Tips on Meditation

Meditation is a celebration of one's being, for theres nothing lacking in existence. But we are preoccupied with becoming 'something' or 'somebody' - and we think that we will be happy and satisfied only when we have reached 'somewhere'.

The art of meditation is "Here-Now" principle. Its flowering is celebration. Zen philosophy says : "Turn on, tune in and drop the log". Turn on means become fully alive in the moment. Tune in means look within and get connected with your Inner Being. And drop the lot means drop all that garbage you collect in your mind. Reality is Here-Now. Be in the Eternal Now and celebrate the purity of your Being - that which is, that what you are in your authenticity.

Osho says : Celebration means dropping this whole trip of becoming and just being here. to celebrate is as natural as it is for the trees to bloom, for birds to sing, for rivers to flow to the ocea; it is a natural state. It has nothing to do with your desires, hopes and their fulfilment. But to see the celebration that is already happenning at the deepest core of your being you will have to drop becoming.

It is futile to seek God outside of uf. Life and God are separate. All is God, So what will you renounce? For what reason should you fast?

Osho says: You are not to achieve something, it has alredy been given to you. It is God's gift. You are already where you should be, you can't be anywhere else. There is nowhere to go, nothing to achieve. So you can celebrate. Then there is no hurry, worry, anxiety, anguish, or fear of being a failure. It is impossible to fail, because there is no question to success. It is just a conditioning by the society that creates the problem in you. You start thinking, "I am not reaching anywhere, and life is slipping out of my hands and death is comming closer. Am I goint to make it or not? And then there a great fear of missing, frustrationthat so much is lost. "I have not yet been able to prove myself, my worth."

One who has understood that the journey of becoming leads nowhere except to mirages and misery, starts feeling content in his own being. As the understanding grows, the contentment grows and ripens into real happiness and bliss. One starts enjoying everything that this life offers.

In The Art of Dying, Osho says : Don't wait for some great bliss to descend on you. It never happens. great bliss is nothing but small pleasures accumulating in your being. The total of all the small pleasures is the great bliss. Eating, enjoy it. Drinking, enjoy it. Taking a bath, enjoy it. Walking, enjoy it.

In the Heart Sutra Osho says : In your very body, in your very being this very moment, God is there - and you have not celebrated it. You cannot celebrate. Celebration has to happen first in your own home, at close quarters. Then it becomes a great tidal wave.

You are in love - celebrate while it is there! Don't start making arrangements so that it is always there; otherwise you will miss the moment in making arrangements. And by the time arrangements are ready, the flower is dead. By the time you are ready to enjoy, the moment has already gone. And nobody can bring it back, there is no going back. The river is onward and onward flowing, and you are being thrown to new shores every moment.

Starting Out

Once you have read what it takes to be a model, and you think you fit the mold, then the first step is to go to a reputable agency in the nearest big city.
Finding an agency: Visit all agencies. They will be able to tell you if you have real modeling potential. Otherwise, do some research and find out which agencies in your area are the best, then visit them. Bring about 5 snapshots - full length in a dress, bathing suit and headshots. Each agency has their own 'look' so don't give up!
Getting Exposure: A great way to get international exposure, potential modeling job offers and international modelling agency representation is to sign up with modelssupreme.com, a reputable online model portfolio database. Models on New Faces Talent get regular job offers from industry professionals and top modeling agencies. Bonus: you don't need professional photos, since the agencies visiting the site are looking for newbies, and the cost is very little - much less than the cost of one photoshoot.
Modeling Schools: if the agency is affiliated with a school or tries to sell you courses then run! Reputable agencies will train you for free.
Portfolio Rip-offs : Approach only reputable professional portfolio photographers. Expect to pay Rs. 4000 - Rs. 14000 on your portfolio with a professional photographer, stylist and make-up artist. You should end up with about 6-8 good shots, showing versatility, for your portfolio/book.
Building a Good Portfolio: A full portfolio consists of about twenty-four 8"x10" or 6"x8" photos and tears (from magazines). Remember: it is better to have less photos, but ones that are really strong, than a full portfolio with photos that are mediocre. Every portfolio needs a mix of commercial and editorial shots, location and studio. You will also need at least one great body shot (professional and tasteful - editorial style is best) and one beautiful B&W headshot with minimal makeup.
Hair, Makeup and Clothes: Get some new clothes for castings and get a make-up lesson. Tasteful, tight-fitting, solid-color tops and skirts work well. Remember: Always wear natural make-up to castings!
Castings: After that, all that's left to do is to go on the rounds of castings (auditions for jobs) and go-sees (to meet a photographer) and hope for the best. Don't feel bad if it takes a while to get a response. This is normal. For most models it takes years to start making a good amount of profit. Be patient.
Your Schedule: Only a small percentage of models can support themselves on modeling alone. You will most likely need to keep another job. Make sure it is one that is flexible so that you can go on castings during the day.
Priorities: Even if you find out that modeling really isn't your thing then don't feel bad about quitting. Modeling isn't for everyone.

A Complete Guide to Photoshoots

Days Before the Photoshoot

  • Resist the urge to over-excersise or diet excessively, don't eat junk food.
  • Avoid breakouts by not trying any new make-up or skin care products.
  • Scan fashion magazines to get ideas on posing; try practicing infront of a mirror.
The Night Before the Photoshoot
  • Remove any body hair you do not want the camera to see.
  • Exfoliate your body to remove dead, scaly skin, and apply moisturizer.
  • Give yourself a manicure and a pedicure, making sure to use only a clear or pale neutral polish.
What to Pack for the Photoshoot
  • Pack clothes, shoes or accessories as per your photographer's brief.
The Day of the Photoshoot
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing to prevent any marks and impressions on your body.
  • Wear a button-down shirt to protect hair and make-up.
  • Wear a clear, unscented deodorant to protect the clothes (especially if they are from the stylist).
  • A make-up artist will be on the set, arrive with clean hair and absolutely no make-up.
Tips from a professional model:

Hire a stylist (they bring suitable clothing, usually designer, and pick what's right for what shot.) It will cost you Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 5000/- more but it's worth it. Your photos may be unuseable if you don't have the right clothing. A makeup artist is a must.
It's okay to bring your mom to a shoot (it's sometimes better to have your mom leave for lunch during the shoot so you're not hindered.) Don't bring friends - it's not professional.
Before you shoot with ANY photographer, please - check into him/her. Call a few local agencies and ask how good he is. If none of them have heard of him then don't shoot with him - he probably isn't any good. Always shop around - look at the photographer's portfolio before you shoot. If you don't like his style then don't shoot with him.

Don't forget to arrive fresh and clean. Yes, that means no makeup. Also, make sure you shaved that morning and that your nails look nice (with pale or no polish!) Leave all your jewelry at home unless you want to risk losing it.
Look through magazines and imitate poses infront of the mirror. Make sure you are comfortable and confident while posing. If you are not confident in your beauty, it may show through.
While changing clothing at the shoot, put a scarf over your head before you pull a top over your head so that you don't get makeup on the stylist's clothing.
